SCO Secretary General: Turkmenistan has an important peacekeeping role

Parahat Durdyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to China during a meeting with Vladimir Norov, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conveyed a written invitation sent to him by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to participate in an international forum on the importance of the policy of neutrality in ensuring peace and sustainable development on our planet.

The plenipotentiary also informed the senior official about the activities that are scheduled for the anniversary date – the 25th year of the neutral status of the Turkmen state.

During a meeting, the SCO Secretary General emphasized that Turkmenistan’s activity in international affairs gives reason to suggest its important peacekeeping role, highlighting “the use by Turkmenistan of the preventive diplomacy principles being the core element of the UN activity”.

According to ORIENT, discussion during a meeting also covered issues related to development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The International Conference “The Policy of Neutrality and its Importance in Ensuring International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development” will be held in Ashgabat on December 11-12, 2020.

Although Turkmenistan is not a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, President Berdimuhamedov several times participated in meetings of the Council of the Heads of SCO State as a guest of honor.

Recently, the SCO China Committee for Good Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation sent a Season’s Greetings to ORIENT and its readers.
