Qatar submitted a request via a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters of its intention to host a future edition of the Olympic Games, as early as 2032 or any other year thereafter.
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) announced it.
“Never before has an Olympic Games been held in the Middle East. The Olympic rings are a symbol of peace, unity and hope for people around the world, including the people of our region. For many years, sport has been a major contributor to our nation’s development,” QOC President Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani said.
According to him, Doha has desire to use sport to promote peace and intercultural exchange, and the IOC has the same goals.
The 2024 Olympic Games are due to held in Paris and the 2028 edition – in Los Angeles.
Let us recall, along with Qatar, India, Australia, China, South and North Korea are touted to be potential bidders for the 2032 Olympic Games.
