Presidents of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation discussed main areas of cooperation

Today a telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin took place, as informed by the State News Agency TDH.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated Vladimir Putin on the formation of a new composition of the government of the Rus-sian Federation and wished all its members successes in their responsi-ble activity, having noted that Turkmenistan gives particular attention to expansion of a meaningful dialogue with the Russian Federation as one of the priority directions in realisation of its foreign policy.

Turkmen and Russian leaders discussed key areas of bilateral coopera-tion and underlined a high potential for diversification of trade and eco-nomic partnership, increase in volumes of mutual goods turnover which last year grew by 2,6 times.

Fruitfulness of interaction between Turkmenistan and the largest re-gions and subjects of the Russian Federation was noted. Among them is Republic Tatarstan, the city of St.-Petersburg, the Astrakhan region and others. Recently the governor of St.-Petersburg at the head of a repre-sentative delegation of the city on the Neva visited Ashgabat in the course of which negotiations were carried out and joint documents were signed.

The Russian business circles constantly show aspiration to expand their presence in the perspective Turkmen market where already for many years a number of famous companies of the Russian Federation have been working.

President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to his Turkmen counter-part for active attention to intensification of regional relations as point-ed out in the information.

Practical realisation of the arrangements reached within the limits of presidency of Turkmenistan in the CIS in 2019, and the documents ac-cepted in this period, in the list of which is the Declaration on the stra-tegic economic cooperation, initiated by the Turkmen side became one of the topics of conversation.

Having exchanged opinions on a number of important issues of region-al and global significance, interlocutors underlined adherence of Turk-menistan and the Russian Federation to partnership within the limits of the United Nations and other authoritative international organisations with a view of maintenance of universal peace, security and well-being.

Berdimuhamedov invited Putin to take part in celebrations on the occa-sion of the 25th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan.
