President of Turkmenistan sets new target volumes of state order on cotton and wheat production

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held session on development of the agro-industrial complex of Turkmenistan and set new target volumes of state order on cotton and wheat production for 2020.

Addressing the heads of the agro-industrial complex of Turkmenistan, the head of state emphasized that this year, the farmers of Turkmenistan have harvested over 1 million 650 thousand tons of wheat and more than 1 million 60 thousand tons of cotton, thus fulfilling the state order on wheat and cotton production.

“In this regard, taking into account the provision of the population with flour, bread and bakery products, it is planned, starting from next year’s harvest, to reduce the sown area for wheat from 760 thousand hectares to 690 thousand hectares and to harvest 1 million 400 thousand tons of wheat,” the head of state said.

President Berdimuhamedov also added that, based on the construction of new textile facilities, the growth of demand for cotton products inside the country and abroad, starting from next year’s harvest, 70 thousand hectares of sown area left vacant from wheat were decided to be added to the field for cotton, increasing to 620 thousand hectares, and to harvest 1 million 250 thousand tons of cotton.

According to the head of state, it would give the opportunity to provide with raw materials the textile factories, facilities for the production of vegetable oil and other industries.
