Athletes of the Russian national team are among the main contenders for victory in the World Championships in Ashgabat. The ORIENT correspondent spoke with the president of the Russian Weightlifting Federation, Maxim Agapitov, who came to the Turkmen capital to support his charges.
As the head of the federation said, the Russian national team prepared for this world championship at a high level and all the necessary conditions were created for the athletes.
“We will fight for good places and demonstrate a decent result,” Agapitov noted.
Among the top favorites, he named the Olympic champions of 2012, Tatyana Kashirina (+87 kg) and Ruslan Albegov (+109 kg), as well as 2015 world champion Artem Okulov (89 kg) and others.
– This is our first competition after the removal. Therefore, we intend to perform beautifully, and the result will speak for itself, – he stressed.
Agapitov also appreciated well the result of Sergey Petrov, who came out on the platform this morning in the weight category of 73 kg in the group “B”.
“He demonstrated a beautiful technique, showed character and great will power,” commented Maxim Oktyabrinovich.
Among the main competitors with whom he will come to compete, the head of the federation named representatives of China, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Maxim Agapitov has been the president of the Russian Weightlifting Federation since November 2016. A graduate of the Moscow State Academy of Physical Education is the Honored Master of Sports in weightlifting, the world and European champion in 1997, and multiple champion of Russia.
