President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met on with the doyenne of the diplomatic corps in Turkmenistan, Ambassador of the Russian Federation Alexander Blokhin on Tuesday.
The meeting, which was held in video format, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov.
The head of state congratulated doyenne and, in his person, all the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in the country on the approaching New Year, and addressed all his good wishes.
As the President said, Turkmenistan is building its foreign policy in two strategic directions: the development of bilateral relations with other states and active interaction with international organizations.
In terms of bilateral cooperation, great importance is attached, first of all, to an open dialogue with neighboring countries, including in the field of ensuring regional stability and security.
Turkmenistan maintains diplomatic relations with 149 countries and is a member of about 50 international organizations. 40 diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan operate abroad and 46 diplomatic missions and consulates of other states, representative offices of international organizations operate in the country. Turkmenistan is a party to 161 international documents – conventions and treaties.
The head of state called active participation in the activities of the UN as the most important component of the country’s foreign policy. The UN General Assembly adopted resolutions on the role of Turkmenistan’s neutrality, energy security, transport and transit corridors and others initiated by Ashgabat. Among them is the resolution declaring 2021 the International Year of Peace and Confidence.
Turkmenistan will always make every effort to strengthen peace, friendly, fraternal relations on the planet for the sake of the prosperous life of all mankind, the head of state said and thanked the doyenne and all heads of diplomatic missions in Turkmenistan for fruitful cooperation and promoting the development of relations between the countries.
