A meeting of business delegations of Turkmenistan and Iran took place in Mashhad


The Chamber of Commerce of Mashhad, the administrative center of Razavi Khorasan province, hosted a meeting of the business delegations of Turkmenistan and Iran with the aim of developing trade and investment relations between the two countries, increasing their export opportunities. The two-day event was organized by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries, writes Tahlilbazaar.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Turkmenistan Gholam Abbas Arbab Khales noted that the 17th meeting of the Joint Economic Commission of Iran and Turkmenistan will be held in Ashgabat next month and said that some of the Iranian businessmen who will take part in this meeting are represented at the current business forum to discuss the preparation of memoranda.

The Ambassador also outlined a number of issues to be worked out by the parties, including the simplification of visa procedures to enhance commercial ties and tourism. In addition, the visit of the Governor of the Iranian province of Khorasan Razavi to Turkmenistan was announced after the meeting of the joint commission.
The Consul General of Turkmenistan in Mashhad Ilyas Gayypov said that Turkmenistan has expanded trade and cultural relations with neighboring provinces such as Razavi Khorasan, North Khorasan and Golestan. He noted that Razavi Khorasan, with three border crossings, is the gateway of Iran to the countries of Central Asia.

The holding of a specialized economic exhibition of Iran in Ashgabat in February 2023 and the presence of 70 Iranian companies at it is proof of the growth of trade and economic relations between the two countries, the consul added.
During the forum, the Iranian side voiced a number of proposals, including the creation of a joint agricultural farm in Turkmenistan and transport cooperation. In this aspect, the importance of the upcoming meeting of representatives of the Central Asian countries and Iran on transit issues in the near future was noted, for which a new joint document based on the capabilities of the private sector in this area is being prepared.

The Turkmen side also stated its focus on expanding exports to Iran and exploring opportunities to promote joint topical projects.
According to Razavi- Amirreza Rajabi, Director General for Industry, Mining and Trade of Khorasan province, in the total trade turnover between the two countries, which is about $ 500 million, the share of this province is about 33%.
The Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan said that trade exchange between the two countries increased by 55% last year, and this growing trend continued during the first quarters of this year.
