Turkmenistan hosts events within the framework of the European Immunization Week

The European Immunization Week has been launched, an annual campaign that is held in the last week of April in order to raise public awareness of the importance of immunization for the prevention of serious diseases.
The themes of the European Immunization Week 2023 are "Vaccines work!" and "Vaccination is not only a right, but also a collective obligation!". This year is special because WHO celebrates its 75th anniversary under the slogan "Health for all".
Turkmenistan is also joining the global campaign. Thus, during the week, the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan, together with UN Agencies and the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, will hold various events, emphasizing the importance of timely routine vaccination.
"Turkmenistan has made significant progress in vaccination coverage – more than 95%, as recommended by WHO, which is an important milestone on the way to improving immunization rates. Working together with the Government of Turkmenistan, UN agencies and the EU, we have made significant progress in Turkmenistan in improving and protecting public health, largely due to the effectiveness of vaccines," said WHO Representative in Turkmenistan Egor Zaitsev in his address on the occasion of the launch of the Week.
He particularly noted the inclusion of vaccines against human papillomavirus in the vaccination calendar in 2016 and the introduction of pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines in 2019. In this regard, Egor Zaitsev expressed confidence that a fruitful partnership will help protect children and adults from life-threatening diseases.
Immunization is one of the most effective public health measures.
For more than two hundred years, immunization has been helping humanity make the world safer — starting with the very first smallpox vaccine and ending with the latest mRNA vaccines that are used to prevent severe cases of COVID-19.
