China imposes export controls on 10 US companies — from drones to rare earth metals

Aveox, Red Cat Holdings, Teal Drones, Ball Aerospace, Oshkosh Defense, MP Materials and USA Rare Earth — dual use goods now banned. Reason: national security protection and a response to Washington's blacklisting of Chinese firms.

As reported by CCTV+, China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that it had added 10 US companies, including Aveox, Inc., to the list of entities subject to export controls, in accordance with the Export Control Law and regulations on dual use items. The ministry stated that the measure is aimed at safeguarding national security and interests, as well as fulfilling international obligations such as non proliferation.

Effective immediately, exporters are prohibited from exporting dual use items to the 10 designated companies, which also include Red Cat Holdings, Inc., Teal Drones, Inc., IMSAR, Jaia Robotics, Inc., Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp., Oshkosh Defense, L3Harris Maritime Services, Inc., MP Materials Corp. and USA Rare Earth, Inc. Organisations and individuals from any country or region are forbidden from transferring or providing Chinese made dual use goods to these companies. Any ongoing export activities must be halted immediately.

In a separate statement, a ministry spokesperson explained that the measure was taken in response to the US government's wrongful actions in adding more Chinese firms to its so called list of companies linked to the Chinese military. The spokesperson stressed that no exporter should violate the ban on exporting dual use goods to the 10 organisations tied to the US military.

Dual use items are products, technologies and materials that can be used for both civilian and military purposes. These include advanced microchips, software, satellite and drone equipment, and rare earth metals. China is the world's largest producer of rare earth elements, which are critical to US high tech industries. The inclusion of American companies on the export control list is a retaliatory move against Washington's earlier blacklisting of dozens of Chinese tech firms over alleged "military ties."

When the technology war moves from words to lists, every company becomes a pawn on the geopolitical chessboard. China is not just imposing restrictions — it is sending a signal: its resources and technologies will not serve those who use them against it. Ten US firms, from drones to rare earth metals, are just the first round. In a world where supply chains are intertwined with politics, any microchip can become a weapon, and any ban can become a warning. As Washington and Beijing trade blows, business remains a hostage to a high stakes game where the stakes go far beyond profit.
