Azerbaijani theatrical works will be presented on Turkmenistan’s stages during the Week of Foreign Classical Productions dedicated to strengthening peace and friendship among nations. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Turkmenistan announced this information.
From 6 to 12 December 2025, as part of the cultural program marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, audiences will be introduced to works by the prominent Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
According to a Decree of the President of Azerbaijan, Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s operetta “Husband and Wife”, celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, will be staged in the Turkmen language at the Main Drama Theatre named after Saparmurat Turkmenbashy the Great in Ashgabat. The performance will also include simultaneous interpretation into English and Russian to ensure broader access for international audiences.
Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s works hold an important place in Turkmenistan’s cultural life. In addition to the operetta “Husband and Wife”, his famous work “Arshin Mal Alan” remains consistently popular among both local viewers and foreign guests. Moreover, as part of the week’s events, the operetta “Arshin Mal Alan” will traditionally be performed at the Russian Drama Theatre named after A.S. Pushkin in Ashgabat.
Throughout the week, audiences in Turkmenistan, along with international visitors, will have the opportunity to enjoy theatrical productions from authors representing Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, the United States, Russia, Italy and France on various stages across the country.
