Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Tunisia Compare Positions Ahead of LLDC3

On Saturday, July 19, Foreign Minister Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a telephone conversation with his Tunisian counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti. The conversation between the heads of the foreign policy departments was devoted to the development of bilateral relations and preparations for an important international event - the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3).

Preparing for LLDC3: Integration and Digitalization

One of the central items on the agenda was the discussion of the organizational aspects of LLDC3, which will be held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone of Turkmenistan from August 5 to 8, 2025.

Minister Meredov confirmed that this conference, which Turkmenistan is organizing jointly with the UN, is aimed at developing a new program to deepen the integration of landlocked developing countries into the global economy. He emphasized that the key areas of the conference will be transport, regional connectivity and digital transformation.

The Turkmen minister also noted the symbolic significance of holding this international meeting as part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The Avaza conference will precede the forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, which will be held in Ashgabat on 12 December 2025.

For his part, Minister Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia's desire to be represented at the highest level at the LLDC3 conference, which underlines the importance of the event for the Tunisian Republic. He highly appreciated Turkmenistan's hosting of two such important international events, which reflects Turkmenistan's commitment to the universal principles of the UN, the Tunisian Foreign Ministry reported.

Tunisia, located in North Africa and with significant access to the Mediterranean Sea, is an important regional player actively participating in international initiatives to develop global trade and transit.

What's on the Agenda of Bilateral Relations

During the conversation, Rashid Meredov expressed Turkmenistan's desire to develop political and diplomatic relations and economic cooperation with Tunisia. This year, the countries celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (since November 30, 1992).

Mohamed Ali Nafti, in turn, emphasized that Tunisia and Turkmenistan share common ideals of establishing and strengthening peace, security and stability throughout the world under the auspices of the United Nations.

Minister Nafti expressed Tunisia's readiness to explore ways to develop and strengthen cooperation and partnership with Turkmenistan, as well as enrich the legal framework governing them. Interest was noted in expanding cooperation in such areas as trade, joint investments, energy, renewable energy sources, tourism and culture, given the natural and human potential of both countries.
