At a government meeting on Friday, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved proposals to strengthen the material and technical base of the aviation and chemical industries, which play an important role in the country's development.
Deputy Prime Minister Mammetkhan Chakiyev, who oversees the transport and communications sector, presented proposals to modernize the airline "Turkmenhovayollary" (Turkmenistan Airlines). The planned measures are aimed at improving the safety, comfort of passengers and the competitiveness of Turkmen aviation in the international market.
And Deputy Prime Minister Baymyrat Annamammedov, who is responsible for the industrial sector, reported on plans to develop plants producing mineral fertilizers. The implementation of the proposal is aimed at increasing the output of products for the domestic market and export.
The head of state emphasized that the modernization of these industries on an ongoing basis is necessary to meet international standards and strengthen the economy of Turkmenistan. The solutions are aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing costs and expanding export potential.
Importance for the Economy
Turkmenistan's aviation industry plays a key role in ensuring transport accessibility, supporting tourism and business ties, as well as cargo transportation.
Modern aircraft and improved infrastructure of international airports (of which there are only six in Turkmenistan) will attract more cargo and passenger traffic to strengthen the country's position as an important transit hub in the region.
The chemical industry, in particular the production of mineral fertilizers, is an important part of the export economy. The country supplies fertilizers to countries in Asia and Europe, and the modernization of plants will increase the competitiveness of Turkmen products on the world market. The introduction of environmentally friendly technologies also meets global trends in sustainable development.
Background
Turkmenhowayollary Airlines operates domestic and international flights. In recent years, new Boeing aircraft have been purchased.
Over the past decade, four international airports have been opened in the country, certified to international standards.
Turkmenistan is a regional leader in the production of mineral fertilizers such as carbamide and ammonia. Plants in the cities of Mary and Turkmenabat account for a significant portion of exports. In 2023, fertilizer exports amounted to about 1.5 million tons.
Prospects
Modernization of the aviation and chemical industries will strengthen Turkmenistan's economic stability and its position on the international stage.
Investments in technology and infrastructure will create new jobs, improve the quality of products and services, and support export potential.
Such steps demonstrate the country's commitment to using innovation and sustainable development in the context of global economic challenges.
