According to the China Meteorological Administration, since May 26, Southern China has been suffering from a prolonged heatwave.
In the provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guangdong, the temperature exceeded +35°C, and in the provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan — +40 °C. Abnormal weather conditions are expected to persist — hot and dry weather will continue in areas south of the Yangtze River, in particular Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.
According to the Chinese Meteorological Administration, unusual weather conditions were observed in China this year: abundant precipitation fell in the northern regions, and drought was observed in the southern regions.
For example, since January of this year, the average rainfall in Yunnan province has averaged 97.6 millimeters, which is the lowest for the same period since 1961. The average number of dry days was 96.5 days. This is the third highest figure for the same period since 1961.
