People’s Council of Turkmenistan to approve amendments to the Constitution of the country via video link

A meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council), scheduled for September, during which it is planned to adopt the necessary amendments to the Basic Law of the country to formalize the bicameral system of the parliament, will be held via video conference link due to the pandemic.

It was announced by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan via video link. The Turkmen leader assigned the head of parliament and deputy prime ministers to prepare well for the meeting of the Constitutional Commission on improving the country’s Constitution, which is due to held on August 19. The head of state also gave instructions for careful preparation to the Halk Maslahaty.

“Taking into account the spread of the pandemic across the world and the measures taken to prevent this disease, we decided that it would be correct to hold a meeting of the Constitutional Commission and a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty via video conference link,” President Berdimuhamedov said.
