The 19th Ministerial Conference of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program was held in video format on Monday, December 7th, under the chairmanship of Afghanistan.
The Turkmen delegation at the meeting was led by the Minister of Finance and Economy Mukhammetgeldy Serdarov, the national coordinator in CAREC. The theme of the current conference is “People-centered regional cooperation in the post-COVID pandemic”.
Its agenda included issues of interaction to restore economic stability, support economic growth and job creation, and the possibility of obtaining livelihoods in the CAREC member countries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Long-term strategies for promoting regional tourism and gender perspectives were also considered.
The Minister of Finance of Afghanistan, Abdul Hadi Argandival, spoke on behalf of the chair country in the Program. IRA President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani sent a special message to the forum delegates. The participants of the ministerial were also greeted by the President of the Asian Development Bank Masatsugu Asakawa.
Experts from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank presented their reports on the macroeconomic prospects of the CAREC countries in the post-COVID situation.
Following the meeting, the ministers approved the CAREC Program Results Matrix, the CAREC Tourism Strategy 2030 and the CAREC Gender Strategy 2030, and also adopted a joint statement.
