The final decision on holding the World Sambo Championship 2020 in Ashgabat, scheduled for November 6-8, will be made by the end of September. This was communicated by International Sambo Federation (FIAS) President Vasily Shestakov to the Russian media.

“If the situation with the spread of new coronavirus infection improves, then the tournament will be held on schedule. The final decision will be taken no later than September”, the federation head said.

The decision to hold the 2020 World Sambo Championship among men and women in the Turkmen capital was made last March at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Sambo Federation in Moscow, when Greece also claimed the right to host the tournament, but Turkmenistan was chosen as the Championship host country by a majority of votes of the FIAS Executive Committee members.

The previous World Sambo Championship was held in the city of Cheongju, South Korea.
