On October 1, the chess tournament for the Cup of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan (CHF) was launched at the capital's specialized chess and checkers school. A record number of players take part in the competition, which takes place according to the Swiss system in 11 rounds - 287 chess players of different ages and skill levels from all regions of the country.
After two rounds with two points out of two possible, a large group of 64 chess players are in the lead. Starting from the 3rd round, interesting confrontations await us, and some sensations are even possible. When young and even the youngest chess players progress rapidly, one can easily expect surprises in the form of losses of points by recognized favorites in confrontations with future “stars”.
However, so far such chess players as master of sports Shakhrukh Turaev, who has a rating of 2193, the national champion in the age category under 18 and a member of the adult national team Amanmuhammet Khommadov (2070), and vice-champion of the country under 18 Vepaly Khalyniyazov (1974), are vying for victory.
Separately, the best results will be identified among women who compete in this tournament in a common group with men. Here, the favorites are all members of the women's team, including candidate master of sports Ogulsurai Bayrambaeva (1933), FIDE master among women Lala Shohradova (1917) and national champion among girls under 20 Meryem Agadzhanova (1856).
