 Turkmenistan called for joint development of transport and transit potential of Central Asia

During the panel session of the Economic Forum of Central Asian Countries, which took place on Thursday, September 14 in Dushanbe, Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Serdar Joraev called for elaborating ways of joint development of the transport and transit potential of the Central Asian region, strengthening work to identify and eliminate barriers in this area, actively assist in the opening and development of new logistics corridors, building up communication infrastructure.

The theme of the forum is “Digital Economy, Electronic Commerce and Innovation”, its agenda includes priority issues of economics, trade, innovation, which are of great importance for the implementation of decisions taken at the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia.

Serdar Joraev noted that for Turkmenistan, cooperation with the countries of Central Asia is the most important strategic direction of foreign economic activity.

— We highly value the mutual understanding that has developed between our states, which helps us expand business and economic ties year after year, which serves as a good platform for stable economic development and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, which are currently one of the key areas of social economic development of Turkmenistan, the minister said.

In his opinion, to achieve the greatest socio-economic effect, it is necessary to jointly and coordinated use of the resources and capabilities of the five countries, which have enormous production, scientific and technical potential, historically created by the common efforts of our peoples. With the reasonable use of market mechanisms and coordinated actions, large-scale attraction of foreign investment, and activation of public-private partnerships, it is capable of ensuring a radical renewal of the economic development of our countries.

— Today, more than ever, the concentration of resources in the industrial and transport sectors, business structures, and financial institutions is relevant for the formation of a modern infrastructure for the developing economies of the Central Asian countries,” Serdar Joraev emphasized, adding that in order to expand e- commerce and economic development, it is necessary to make more active use of existing transit corridors and the logistics infrastructure of our states.

Turkmenistan actively supports all areas of economic cooperation, including digitalization, expansion of e-commerce and innovation between the countries of Central Asia and will further promote the strengthening of business regional cooperation, the consistent development of integration processes and the economic potential of our states, the minister assured.

Also speaking at the sessions of the Economic Forum from Turkmenistan were Deputy Head of the Department of Finance and Industry Development of the Ministry of Economy Serdar Charyev, Director of “Turkmen Khemrasy” CJSC Batyr Orazdurdyev, Head of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations of the Ministry of Trade Merdan Annagulyev, and Director General of the “Aydin Gidzheler” Economic Organization Khydyrberdi Abdyrakhmanov.
