Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan held talks with the leadership of Iran

Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to Iran at the head of a representative government delegation, met with President of Iran Seyed Ebrahim Raisi.
The subject of their conversation was the trade and economic relations between the two countries, primarily in such areas as the gas sector and the electric power industry, the transport complex and the water sector. The implementation of a number of agreements in these areas and prospects for new joint projects were discussed.
Then the negotiations continued in an expanded format with the participation of members of the delegations of Turkmenistan and Iran. Following the meeting, bilateral documents on cooperation were signed in the presence of the President of Iran and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan. They relate to cooperation in the fields of electric power, diplomacy, customs, and between universities.
Then Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Ebrahim Raisi spoke at a joint press conference, during which they noted the fruitfulness of negotiations, including on the topic of energy, since both countries have high potential in this area and successfully cooperate in it. New decisions have also been made in the transport and transit sector, and an increase in the export of technical and engineering services between the two countries is planned.
In addition to bilateral relations, regional and extra-regional cooperation was discussed. The parties agreed to expand contacts within the framework of international organizations.
During the visit, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Chairman of the Mejlis of the Islamic Shura Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Welcoming the distinguished guest, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament expressed confidence that this visit of the national leader of the Turkmen people will strengthen relations between the two countries, pave the way for the development of their political, economic and cultural ties.
During the conversation, the parties focused on bilateral trade relations and noted that issues of cooperation in the field of transit and energy occupy a priority place on the agenda of interaction. Parliamentary diplomacy is also an important aspect of the interstate dialogue, the interlocutors noted. The Iranian side supported Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's initiative to create an inter-parliamentary group, whose activities will be aimed at expanding interstate dialogue.
Environmental issues also became one of the other important topics of the talks. It was stressed that Iran has always supported and will continue to support all initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan in this area.
Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan met with the head of the Expediency Council (advisory body under the supreme leader of Iran) Sadekom Amoli Larijani.
During the meeting, a thorough exchange of views took place on a wide range of partnership issues, both in a bilateral format and within the framework of major international organizations.
The national leader of the Turkmen people noted that as a result of the complex processes taking place today in the international arena, Central Asia and its neighboring states are in the center of attention of the whole world. This factor serves to strengthen the position of the region to a certain extent. In this regard, special attention is paid to ensuring security and stability in the region. In addition, the sides exchanged views on Turkmen-Iranian cooperation on issues related to the Caspian Sea.
