Turkmenistan strengthens its potential in reduction of methane emissions

The United Nations Mission in Turkmenistan and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) organized a seminar on reducing methane emissions for employees of the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan, the official website of the mission reports.
International experts presented best practices in reducing methane emissions, which is the second most common greenhouse gas.
For example, UNEP consultant Megan Demeter introduced the participants to the methane alert and response system, which combines satellite detection of methane with transparent notification processes.
UNEP expressed readiness to cooperate with the Government of Turkmenistan through the International Methane Emission Observatory (IMEO) in implementing initiatives to curb methane emissions.
