Saudi Arabia prepares for its first-ever Biennale of Islamic Art

The first ever Saudi Arabia Biennale of Islamic Art opened in Jeddah at the Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport on January 23.

The event will showcase the richness of Islamic art, emphasizing the close connection between Muslims around the world, as well as highlighting the connection between spiritual and artistic aesthetics. The main theme of the exposition is "Awwal Bait", which in Arabic means "First House" - a term that came from the Koran. It is used to refer to the most sacred site for Muslims, the Kaaba in Mecca.

The Hajj Terminal, built in 1981 and located at the King Abdulaziz International Airport, welcomes millions of pilgrims who come to Saudi Arabia to participate in the rituals associated with the annual Hajj.

For its unique architecture, the building was awarded the Aga Khan Prize in 1983. Here, on an area of 70,000 square meters, there is a large exhibition pavilion. The Islamic art exhibition will be open until April 23, 2023.
