Rail freight traffic from Russia through Turkmenistan increased by 2 times

In 2022, the volume of cargo transportation from Russia through Turkmenistan along the North-South international transport corridor doubled compared to 2021, Interfax reports.

Thus, 130 thousand tons of cargo were sent from the stations of the Northern Railway along the eastern branch, which passes through the territories of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. The volume of cargo transportation through the Caspian Sea, which is the middle branch of the transport corridor, increased 14 times – it amounted to 26.6 thousand tons.

In total, in 2022, over 0.6 million tons of cargo were shipped from the stations of the Northern Railway via the North–South MTC. This is 36.3% more compared to the previous year.

Earlier, in order to increase cargo transportation, JSC "Russian Railways" announced 20% discount on all international container shipments throughout 2023.
