Mirziyoyev: a completely new atmosphere of Uzbek-Turkmen relations has been created

Thanks to the common political will, in recent years it has been possible to create a completely new atmosphere of Uzbek-Turkmen relations and give cooperation a strategic character, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a media briefing after the conclusion of negotiations with his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

"Further strengthening of partnership with Turkmenistan is an invariable priority of Uzbekistan's foreign policy," the head of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.

As a result of today's talks, the Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership, which provides for closer cooperation both in the bilateral format and in the international arena was signed.

The key topic of the talks was building up trade and economic ties, and the creation of the Border Trade Zone with modern infrastructure will help increase trade, expand business contacts and create new jobs in the regions.

As was reported at the briefing, agreements were reached on the active development of cooperative ties in industry, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics. Attention is paid to interaction in the areas of water use and environmental protection, prevention and elimination of consequences of emergency situations.

The importance of a constructive dialogue on the rational use of water resources of the transboundary rivers of Central Asia was emphasized.

Special attention during the talks was paid to the further expansion of the inter-parliamentary dialogue and people's diplomacy, the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The parties aim to strengthen regional cooperation, including within the framework of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia.

The presidents of the two countries agreed to step up efforts to stabilize the situation and promote infrastructure projects in Afghanistan.
