Cooperation projects discussed at the Turkmen-Uzbek summit talks

The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan held talks in an expanded format with the participation of government delegations.

It was noted that in recent months, the leaders of the two states have met for the sixth time – this is a vivid indicator of the special relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the great merit of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in forming a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation.

Today, economic ties are the engine of these relations, which confirms the growth of mutual trade in recent years. The further development of contacts in this area and the creation of new jobs in the regions will be served by the Border Trade Zone, the creation of which will be launched today by the heads of state.

Other cooperation projects were also discussed at the talks, including in the industrial complex, the energy sector, the chemical industry and the agro-industrial complex, according to the website of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The transport sphere has been identified as one of the strategic vectors of interaction. The Heads of state agreed to actively develop corridors along the East–West and North–South lines using the capabilities of the Turkmenbashi port.

Water issues were also considered, in connection with which the consistent implementation of the Agreement signed in Tashkent on the Amu Darya River was noted.

The Presidents also confirmed the need to intensify cooperation in science and education, culture and tourism. In 2023, it is planned to hold cross-cultural and cinema Days, youth festivals.

Earlier it was reported that the Turkmen-Uzbek Friendship Festival will be held in Dashoguz next month.
