Turkmenistan introduces more favorable tariffs for international cargo transportation
21.10.2022 | 21:42 |The new procedure of fees and duties from foreign owners of motor trailers entering Turkmenistan or following transit is established from November 15, 2022 to November 15, 2023.
The decree was signed on Thursday by the President of Turkmenistan. The solution is aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the country's transport system in international cargo transportation and realizing the potential of regional transit corridors running through Turkmenistan.
In particular, a new, more profitable system of duties for carriers will allow to intensify cooperation between the member countries of the Ashgabat Agreement (between the governments of Iran, Oman, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) and the Lapis Lazuli Corridor project (from Afghanistan through Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan to Turkey, the Caucasus and Europe).
As explained to ORIENT in the Agency of Transport and Communications, the reduction of tariffs will stimulate an increase in cargo flows in these areas and the volume of regional trade.
In particular, the total amount of fees for trailers arriving on the territory of the country will be $ 150, and for those in transit – $ 100. This amount includes fees for registration of documentary procedures and customs operations, tracking, quarantine inspection of crop products and disinfection treatment.
