Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan held meetings on the sidelines of the counter-terrorism forum in Dushanbe

The delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khadzhiev, arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the high-level conference "International and regional cooperation in the field of border security and border control to combat terrorism and prevent the movement of terrorists."

On Monday, on the sidelines of the forum, Vepa Khadzhiev held bilateral talks with UN Under-Secretary-General, head of the counter-terrorism department Vladimir Voronkov and with European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Teri Hakala, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During these meetings, issues of interaction between Turkmenistan and the UNOCT and the development of relations with the European Union were considered.

On October 18, a speech by the delegation of Turkmenistan is expected at the opening ceremony of the High-Level Conference on Combating Terrorism.

The two-day conference is jointly organized by the Government of Tajikistan, the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the European Union, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar.

The conference is aimed at bilateral, sub-regional, regional and international cooperation to improve border and customs controls to prevent and detect the movement of terrorists, including foreign terrorist fighters, illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons, conventional ammunition and explosives, and nuclear, chemical, biological or radiological weapons and materials, and taking measures for border security and management, criminal justice and information exchange in accordance with international human rights law, international humanitarian law and refugee rights.
