Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Aksoltan Atayeva spoke at the general debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, on September 26.

She called a dialogue the only acceptable way to resolve conflicts and disagreements, calling for the restoration of economic and humanitarian ties.

There is no alternative to the United Nations, Atayeva said, warning that the global security architecture is being seriously tested. Pointing to the complex processes hindering multilateral cooperation, she stressed the need to strengthen existing platforms for dialogue and consider creating new ones for intergovernmental negotiations on pressing global issues.

It was noted that in order to further promote the philosophy of dialogue based on trust in international relations, the delegation of Turkmenistan intends to propose to the General Assembly a draft resolution "Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace."

Expressing her concern about the current threats to global food security, the Permanent Representative called on the international community to ensure the sustainability of the global food market and jointly seek solutions to the complex problem of providing food to the most vulnerable countries. To this end, she proposed to hold an international forum on food security in Turkmenistan.

Atayeva emphasized that climate change and water issues are of critical importance in Central Asia, calling for the establishment of a regional climate technology center for the Central Asian states. In this context, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The topic of the pandemic, the consequences of which require coordinated efforts, was also touched upon, along with the fight against the COVID‑19 infection and the creation of tools for medical diplomacy.
