Turkmenistan opens up new opportunities for transport-logistics cooperation

“We pay special attention to the transport and communications sector as an intensively developing and promising segment of the national economy,” said President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the State Council held on September 23 in Ashgabat.

The head of state noted that the origins of the country's transport and logistics strategy date back to antiquity – the Great Silk Road.

Today, Turkmenistan is developing transport and transit corridors in the North-South and East-West directions, actively participating in the launch of regular international transportation along the routes Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey, Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman-Qatar and Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA).

To form the transport infrastructure, there were built road and railway bridges across the Amu Darya, new international airports in Ashgabat, Turkmenbashi, Turkmenabat, Kerki, and a seaport in Turkmenbashi. These steps made it possible to increase the trade and economic activity of Turkmenistan in the region and beyond.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov recalled that on the initiative of Turkmenistan, four resolutions of the UN General Assembly on sustainable transport were unanimously adopted - in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2021.

In 2016, Turkmenistan hosted the first UN Global Conference on Sustainable Transport, and recently, in August 2022, the Ministerial Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries.

“All this opens up new opportunities for the development and strengthening of international transport and logistics cooperation on a global and regional scale, the creation and expansion of modern transport and transit corridors,” the Turkmen leader said.
