Turkmenistan is ready to host major sports forums and competitions
03.09.2022 | 19:02 |Turkmenistan intends to expand existing cooperation with UNESCO, including with its Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Culture and Sports (CIGEPS). Turkmenistan has already been a member of this committee for the period 2017-2021 and is ready to nominate its candidacy for the CIGEPS membership for the period 2023-2027. In this aspect, it is proposed to hold an International Conference of Ministers Responsible for Physical Culture and Sports in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said this at a meeting of the Turkmen government on Friday. He also submitted proposals to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on intensifying cooperation with UNESCO in the scientific and educational field.
In this regard, it was noted that the Turkmen delegation of Turkmenistan will take part in the work of the Summit on the transformation of the education system, which is convened by the UN Secretary General António Guterres. The forum will be held in New York on September 16-19 under the auspices of UNESCO.
Turkmenistan also intends to take part in the 41st General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, which is scheduled for October 2-5 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and offers to host a meeting of the OCA executive committee.
In addition, Turkmenistan initiates the development of a dialogue with the World Anti-Doping Agency, intends to join the International Federation of Sports Medicine and activates its position in the Council for Physical Culture and Sports of the CIS. It is also ready to host a number of sports competitions of regional and global importance in the coming years.
