Turkmenbashi has a Russian sister city

The agreement on cooperation between the Astrakhan region (RF) and the Balkan region of Turkmenistan, the agreement on twinning between the cities of Astrakhan and Turkmenbashi, the agreement in the field of education are the results of the meeting in Moscow of the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation Batyr Niyazliev with the Vice-Governor and Chairman of the Government of the Astrakhan region Oleg Knyazev.

Oleg Polumordvinov, Head of the Astrakhan City Municipality, Vladimir Golovkov, Minister of External Relations of the Astrakhan Region, and Konstantin Markelov, Rector of Astrakhan State University, also took part in the negotiations on behalf of the Russian side.

The participants of the meeting noted that the range of relations between the Astrakhan and Balkan regions can be very wide. First of all, this is cooperation in the development of maritime transport, shipbuilding, and tourism.

The above-mentioned agreement in the field of education was signed by the rectors of the Astrakhan State University named after V.N. Tatishchev Konstantin Markelov and the Turkmen State University named after Makhtumkuli Bayramgul Orazdurdiyev. The universities of the two countries have agreed on the implementation of joint projects, academic exchanges, the organization of advanced training courses, the development and implementation of educational programs, the issuance of double diplomas.
