The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held meetings with the heads of the diplomats of China, Iran and Afghanistan

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, who is in China (Tunxi, Huangshan) on a visit to participate in the 3rd meeting of the foreign ministers of countries neighboring Afghanistan, held a number of meetings on Wednesday.

The head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Diplomats discussed a wide range of issues related to the implementation of bilateral agreements reached during contacts at the highest state level in 2021-2022, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministers stressed that the Committee for Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China, which works in four main areas: trade, energy, security, and culture, is an effective mechanism for interstate interaction.

The heads of the foreign ministries paid great attention to the situation in Afghanistan, emphasizing that Turkmenistan and China are engaged in a dialogue on the Afghan problem on a permanent and systematic basis. The parties stated the closeness and similarity of the positions of Turkmenistan and China on topical issues of the regional and global agenda, primarily related to ensuring global peace and security.

Also, in the city of Tunxi, Rashid Meredov met with the head of the Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Mottaki.

During the talks, the parties considered topical issues in the field of political, diplomatic, trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation. The effectiveness of the Turkmen Afghan talks that took place during the visit of the Afghan minister to Turkmenistan in January 2022 was noted.

An exchange of views took place on the implementation of joint infrastructure projects - the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line and railway projects. The need to intensify Turkmen Afghan cooperation in the field of security was emphasized.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan also met with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdulakhyan, discussing with him the state and possibilities of trade and economic relations between the two states.

The possibilities of increasing bilateral trade, cooperation in the energy sector, and intensifying partnerships in the field of transport were considered, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
