Voting in the presidential elections in Turkmenistan ended with a record turnout

97.12% of the total number of registered voters voted in the early presidential elections in Turkmenistan, according to data published by the press service of the country's Central Election Commission.
Abroad, 90.93% of voters voted in the diplomatic missions of the country, but in some countries, due to the difference in time zones, voting continues.
In total, about 3.5 million citizens of Turkmenistan were registered to participate in the elections, which were held from 7 am to 7 pm. More than 2.5 thousand polling stations were opened for voting throughout the country.
The website of the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan conducted a live online broadcast of the voting process from a number of polling stations opened in various regions of the country, which ensured a high level of transparency in the elections.
Nine candidates are running for the presidency in the elections - from the Democratic, Agrarian and Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, as well as initiative groups of citizens.
The inauguration of the elected President of Turkmenistan is to take place on Saturday, March 19 at the “Oguzhan” Palace.
The incumbent head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov earlier announced his intention to use his rich political experience and knowledge as chairman of the People's Council (Halk Maslakhaty), which is the upper house of the Turkmen parliament (Milli Gengesh).
