CEC registers initiative groups to nominate candidates for presidential elections

The Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan has registered six initiative groups of citizens who will be able to nominate their candidates for the presidential elections in the country, the press service of the department reports.

Registration was held on February 17 in accordance with Article No. 46 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, which regulates the procedure for nominating candidates for the presidency of the country by groups of citizens.

A candidate nominated by initiative groups of citizens must be supported by at least ten thousand signatures of voters. The initiative group must include at least fifty citizens of Turkmenistan.

The presidential elections in Turkmenistan will be held on March 12. At the moment, the CEC has registered two candidates - Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov from the Democratic Party and the deputy head of the Mary region Agadzhan Bekmyradov from the Agrarian Party.
