“We have always believed that the importance of the Southern Gas Corridor lies in the fact that it can be expanded and carry additional gas to Europe. We are open to all opportunities to increase gas supplies to Europe,” US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Earl Litzenberger told representatives of local media on Wednesday, Trend reports.

"The Trans-Caspian pipeline is also a way to potentially unlock Turkmenistan's vast and vast gas resources and deliver them to world markets and Europe," the diplomat said.

The Ambassador stressed the important role that the Southern Gas Corridor plays today in the energy security of Europe. “Due to the shortage of gas in Europe, it is even more important for Europe to start taking further steps to diversify its energy sources, and the Southern Gas Corridor can play a role,” said Litzenberger.

In his opinion, the Southern Gas Corridor can double its capacity, "which will require some time and certain investments."

"But I think it's time to look at how to start this process now," the US ambassador added.
