IPA CIS ready to consider Turkmenistan's invitation to send observers to elections
14.02.2022 | 17:07 |The Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) of the CIS will consider an invitation from Turkmenistan to take part in monitoring the upcoming March 12 early presidential elections, if it is sent. This was reported to TASS by the director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Development of Democracy, Parliamentarism and Observance of the Electoral Rights of Citizens of the IPA CIS Member States Ivan Mushket.
Previously, observers from the organization monitored the electoral processes in Turkmenistan. "Representatives of the International Institute for Monitoring the Development of Democracy, Parliamentarism and Observance of the Electoral Rights of Citizens of the IPA CIS Member States participated in the observation of the elections in Turkmenistan as part of the mission of observers from the CIS," Musket was quoted by TASS.
According to him, the organization is also ready to share with the CEC of Turkmenistan developments in the field of improving the electoral process. “Over the 15 years of its existence, our institute has prepared and tested many times in practice, developed on the basis of the provisions of the Convention on Standards for Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms in the CIS Member States, methods of international election observation and improvement of the electoral process. We are ready to share our experience and knowledge in this direction,” the director of the institute emphasized.
On Friday, speaking at a meeting of the upper house of parliament, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that he had made a "difficult decision about himself" and noted that young leaders should be given the way to power structures at a new stage in the country's development. Berdimuhamedov said he intended to focus on the post of chairman of the upper house, the People's Council. Early presidential elections in Turkmenistan are scheduled for March 12.
