The new airport will be built in the urban-type settlement of Jebel, located near the administrative center of the Balkan region of Turkmenistan. An international tender for its construction was announced by the Ministry of Construction and Architecture.
Earlier, a modern international airport was built in the seaside region in the city of Turkmenbashi, not far from the Avaza resort zone on the Caspian coast.
Today, the country’s largest oil and gas processing enterprises are located in the Balkan region, such as the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries, a gas chemical complex for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene in the village of Kiyanly, etc.
The intensive development of industry in the region necessitates the modernization of its transport infrastructure. Therefore, the construction of the new airport will be an important contribution to the intensification of the socio-economic development of the region.
