NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed plans for inter-Afghan talks. The head of the alliance stressed that he discussed the beginning of the inter-Afghan dialogue with IRA President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and the head of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah.
“All parties must take advantage of this historic moment to establish peace,” Stoltenberg said.
Let us remind you that yesterday Ashraf Ghani signed a decree on the release of 400 Taliban prisoners. The release of the captives is a precondition for the Taliban to begin dialogue with Kabul.
Earlier, the Taliban announced their readiness to begin negotiations with a delegation from Kabul within a week of the release of the prisoners. First round of talks is expected to start in Qatar soon.
