President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov assigned Vice Prime Minister Bahargul Abdyeva, who supervises culture and media, to work on improvement of the Turkmen journalists’ professionalism. At a working meeting, held on Tuesday, the head of state criticized the work of the national television on these issues, in particular, the “Miras” channel.
The President expressed the opinion that this channel (translated as “Heritage”) is not adequate for its purpose, incompetent in its tasks, and therefore it was decided to change its leadership.
Meanwhile, this channel was initially assigned a leading role in popularizing the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people, their creative traditions, spiritual property, top achievements in the sphere of arts, and moral statutes being of great educational significance.
According to the President, this is a necessary part of the activities, aimed at preserving the national heritage and updating it, in which multimedia presentation means are of particular importance today. The creation of such TV products will also promote the country’s tourism potential on the world stage.
The Turkmen leader said that in the coverage of the country’s modern life by TV channels, it also needs more full-scale range and a higher professional level, and authorized to create conditions for the growth of the journalists’ qualification. In this regard, the head of state distinguished the importance of cooperation with relevant organizations of other countries, exchange of experience and best practices.
