The European Union hopes for renewal of negotiations between the USA and “Taliban” movement, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated.
Acting at the press conference following the results of the session of Council of the European Union for foreign affairs, the main diplomat of EU noted that continuation of a dialogue with the radical movement should become a step to peace process preparation, in particular, to direct negotiations between the lawful government of Afghanistan and the Taliban.
«We would like to see, how political forces unite the efforts in the face of the official peace process preparing between the lawful government after elections and the Taliban, with appropriate assistance of the international community and some regional players», – Mogherini stated.
After nine rounds of the negotiations directed to preparation of the bilateral peace agreement, the USA stopped a dialogue with the “Taliban” – since a pause in negotiations passed already more than two months.
Nevertheless, now the USA consider possibility of renewal of negotiations – as the next evidence of these intentions served freeing of three commanders of extremist grouping Hakkani (which in the union with the Taliban conducts guerrilla struggle against the governmental forces, and also the international armies of the NATO) of what recently the president of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani stated.
Transfer to the authorities of Afghanistan two foreign hostages – teachers of the American university of Afghanistan became a condition of their release.
In her recent speech Federica Mogherini underlined that the European Union is ready to support possible renewal of negotiations, without having any latent political ends.
«We are interested only in peace, safety and stability, and also in the rights of Afghani people, – underlined the High Representative. – in this connection we are ready to support».
