MGIMO to hold conference in honor of 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality

Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Russia Batyr Niyazliyev met with the rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) Anatoly Torkunov.

The head of Russia’s oldest university, providing education in diplomacy and international relations, and the head of the Turkmen diplomatic mission discussed steps to stimulate cooperation between MGIMO and the Institute of international relations of the Ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the conversation Torkunov conveyed to the Ambassador his desire to invite the Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Baba Zakhyrov to MGIMO for a working visit in February or March next year.

The sides discussed the possibility of organizing a scientific and practical conference in MGIMO dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan. The rector supported the proposal of the Turkmen side. The forum is preliminary scheduled for October 2020.

The meeting also considered various aspects of training of Turkmen students in MGIMO and activities of the Turkmen community.

The cooperation agreement between the MGIMO University and the IIR of the Ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan was signed on 20 February 2017.

Turkmen language has being taught in MGIMO as a second foreign language since 2000. Students studying the Turkmen language regularly take part in events held by the Embassy and cultural center of Turkmenistan in Moscow, as well as the Turkmen community of the University.
