Kazan will host the first Games of the CIS countries in 2020

On October 11th, a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States will be held in Ashgabat. It will be preceded by the Council of Foreign Ministers.

Among the issues that the heads of foreign affairs agencies will consider will be the organization of the First Games of the CIS countries, which are scheduled to be held in Kazan (Russia) in 2020 year.

It is expected that the games will be held from August 20 to 27 and will bring together more than 2 thousand athletes from Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and, possibly, Ukraine. They will compete in judo, sambo, beach volleyball, beach handball, futsal, boxing, Thai boxing, chess, sports dancing, fencing, karate, weight-lifting, arm wrestling and mas-wrestling, athletics, basketball (3×3), sports wrestling and belt wrestling.

The parties also consider the possibility of inviting other countries to participate, which will expand the format of the competition. I Commonwealth Games will be held in the Olympic year and will be held every two years.

In addition, during the Games, it is planned to hold the CIS “Territory of Sports” Forum and various cultural events that will contribute to the popularization of the traditions of each country and will bring the participants closer.
