The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games launches “Make the Beat!”, a new project fusing sound, technology and social media to allow fans from all over the world to take part in energizing venues and encouraging their favorite teams and athletes as well as to introduce fans to the official Tokyo 2020 beat, a melodic rhythm. Fans are also encouraged to get into that Olympic and Paralympic celebratory mood in the run-up to the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The campaign was launched by the athletes themselves. Since September, at the Tokyo 2020 official website, a series of videos featuring athletes and famous artists from all different fields demonstrating the beat are uploaded.
The fans are invited to join the campaign and film themselves performing to the rhythm and to post their content on social media using the special hashtag #2020beat. During the Tokyo 2020 Games, a selection of the submitted material will be displayed inside venues and at Live Sites.
The official Tokyo 2020 beat was created from a range of 1,000 different sound samples reflecting the themes of “sports”, “Japanese culture”, “daily lives” and “nature”. Different rhythms were compiled from these using Olympic World-Wide Partner Intel Corporation’s Artificial Intelligence technology.
