Director General of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization of Khorasan province, Iran, Razavi Abolfazl Mokarramifar in a meeting with the newly appointed Iranian Consul General in Mary, Turkmenistan, Rasoul Jafari discussed strategies and ways to attract tourists from Turkmenistan’s regions, and especially from Mary.
“There are more than 2,600 active tourism centers in Khorasan Razavi province (northeast of Iran) that provide services for pilgrims and travelers from around the world,” said Mokarramifar. He added in April of this year, Iran and Turkmenistan jointly celebrated spring holiday – Novruz at the “Gaudan-Bajigiran” Turkmen-Iranian border.
“We are ready to hold similar cultural events in the future, including bilateral creative meetings, as well as handicrafts exhibitions,” said Mokarramifar, pointing to good cultural ties between Turkmen city of Mary and Iranian Mashad.
Abolfazl stated the health tourism as another promising area of cooperation and announced the readiness to host influential groups in attracting tourists from Turkmenistan, including tour leaders, travel agencies and Turkmen media reporters and documentary producers.
The Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mary also expressed readiness to hold a cultural festival on the border of Sarakhs with Turkmenistan and said that “we are also ready to hold a festival for Iranian ethnic costumes in Turkmenistan”.
Rasoul Jafari added that “we are trying to facilitate the entry of Turkmen nationals to Iran and there is a possibility of a direct flight from Mary to Mashad and Bojnourd.”
The parties also discussed the issue related to the attraction of tourists to the Silk Road Route joint project that would involve Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey.
It is worth to note that Iran is among the Top-10 countries in the world to attract tourists. Such areas of tourism as ecological, historical, educational, ethnographic, pilgrimage, sports, hiking and health are developing in the country.
