Iran and Russia are to establish regular ferry service at the Caspian Sea

Member of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Jalil Jalalifar informed that a regular ferry service will be established between the ports of Iran and Russia at the Caspian Sea in September 2020, IRNA reports.

– For many years, due to the lack of container ships in the Caspian Sea, Iran has not had an opportunity to increase the supply of agricultural and food products to Russia, he said.

According to Jalil Jalalifar, the new route will contribute to an increase in the Iranian exports to Russia.

Back in August 2019, Head of the Republic of Dagestan Vladimir Vasiliev said that Iran plans to establish a ferry service with Derbent across the Caspian Sea.

– Derbent, like a magnet, attracts Iran, attracts it very strongly, and it will work. They are ready to establish maritime traffic with us, and we will meet them halfway – and everything will work, Vasiliev said then, answering a question about the possibility of a ferry service with Iran.
