The coronavirus epidemic will not affect the organization of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, it will be held anyway, vice-president of the International Olympic committee (IOC) John Coates announced this morning, as the France Press informs.
Coates, being also the chairman of the International Olympic Committee’s Coordination Commission for the Tokyo Games, specified that «with or without coronavirus », but competitions will take place.
“It will be the Games that defeated COVID, the light at the end of the tunnel,” IOC vice-president is sure.
Let’s remind, the Summer Olympic Games 2020 had to take place from July 24 to August 9 in Tokyo. Because of threat of spread of coronavirus its date has been shifted for a year, from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
In June, 2020 the organising committee responsible for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, officially stated that it is necessary to simplify the format of competitions, having based maintenance of epidemiological safety and reduction of expenses.
