The partner of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japanese Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) has developed a motor vehicle Accessible People Mover (APM) for transportation of visitors with physical disabilities to venues of competitions.
Electric cars can hold five passengers at a time covering a hundred kilometres without additional charge. It will not only help the elderly people and numerous sports fans who could not earlier attended competitions due to their impairments. The APM will also facilitate to reduce environmental burdens of the Olympic Games as much as a historically low level.
In addition, Toyota will introduce electric car designed for a short range for transportation of sportsmen as well as the staff to sports facilities.
Similar technological innovations are conditioned with the concept of the company “Mobility for All” which offers everyone the freedom to move in view of facilitation of sustainability of the environment.
Nobuhiko Koga, Director General of Toyota’s Frontier Research Centre explained:
– ‘Mobility for all’ is not only the ‘physical’ movement of a person or thing from one location to another, but also includes ‘virtual’ mobility of a person. This provides further opportunities to experience new things, meet and interact with others, or to be ‘moved’ emotionally.
Another project – «Robot Project Tokyo 2020» – is also the main component of mobile innovations of Toyota.
