In 2017, the export of Turkmen goods to Azerbaijan twice exceeded the import of Azerbaijan products to Turkmenistan
Elman Nasirov, Deputy of the Milli Mejlis (National Parliament) of Azerbaijan told in an interview with the Azerbaijan Trend News Agency.
“Trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $164.1 million in 2017. Azerbaijan’s exports to Turkmenistan amounted to $54.1 million and products worth $110 million were imported from Turkmenistan,” Nasirov said.
The Deputy of the Milli Mejlis also noted that presently there is a great potential for development of economic ties between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
Of course, last year’s trade and economic indicators do not reflect the real potential of Turkmen-Azerbaijan trade turnover. At the recent Ashgabat top-level talks, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the turnover rate increases every passing year, and as compared to the same period of 2017, it increased by about 17 percent in 2018. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev noted that at the new Baku International Trade Port in Alat a special place is allocated for receiving additional cargo from Turkmenistan.
