The agreement on the opening of the regional centre of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Almaty was signed by Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Erbolat Dosaev and managing director of IMF Christina Georgieva.
Employees of the regional centre will be engaged in development of cooperation with nine countries: Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kirghizia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Mongolia.
The regional centre will help with realisation macroeconomic, financial and monetary and credit policy, statistics, regulation and supervision of financial sector, and also development of reforms.
The decision on the opening of the regional centre of IMF in Almaty was accepted in October, 2019. Now 16 similar centres worldwide operate.
The International Monetary Fund is an important strategic partner of Turkmenistan in economic transformations and rendering of the technical and consultation service. Turkmenistan joined IMF in September, 1992.
