A telephone conversation between the presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev – took place today. The leaders of neighboring countries discussed the preparatory work for the Consultative Meeting of Heads of State of Central Asia, which will be held on April 12 in Tashkent.
In conversation, they settled on water issues. The heads of state identified the rational use of water resources in Central Asia and their conservation as one of the key tasks facing the countries of the region, the TDH news agency reported.
The presidents noted the importance of intensifying comprehensive multilateral cooperation on the water agenda in accordance with the norms of international law and taking into account the interests of all Central Asian states.
The topic of interaction between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan within the framework of the International Fund for the Aral Saving was also discussed. It was noted that the countries of the region should join efforts to prepare the UN Special Program for the countries of the Aral Sea basin and implement the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security Initiative for the Aral Sea region.
