Despite the strengthening of control over trade with a view to the spread of COVID-19 in the world, Turkmenistan continues to increase export of tomatoes. In January-July of the current year, the physical volume of tomato supplies from Turkmenistan grow up on 99% compared to the same period in 2019. According to the country’s State Statistics Committee, more than 29,000 tons of tomatoes have been sent abroad since the beginning of the year.
Turkmen entrepreneurs grow various productive varieties of tomatoes, including cherry tomatoes, Rigantino, and Fulton, which have become very popular in the world. Russia remains the key importer of Turkmen tomatoes.
Turkmenistan produces tomatoes in greenhouses all year round. Equipment for this purpose is purchased mainly in European countries and Turkey, and there are used the most advanced cultivation technologies proven to be highly effective.
Greenhouse farms procure work for thousands of the country’s citizens the year round. The increase of tomato exports demonstrates steady growth in this area of agriculture, which means that it strengthens the domestic labor market in rural areas.
